Wesley Culp - Gettysburg's Rebel
Walking Tour

Picture
Wesley Culp is part of Gettysburg’s Civil War lore – a former Gettysburg resident who fought and died as a Confederate soldier at the Battle of Gettysburg, in the shadow of Culp’s Hill.

Join author Tom McMillan on a one-hour, four-block walking tour of town to learn the story of Wesley and his family, including his sisters, who lived on West Middle Street during the battle in July 1863, and his brother, William, a soldier in the Union Army.

We will start near the town square, where Wesley entered Gettysburg with his regiment on July 1; move on to Chambersburg Street, where he once worked as an apprentice for a prominent carriage maker, who eventually took him to the South; and finish on West Middle Street, where he had an emotional reunion with his sisters the night before he was killed in action.

Meet in front of the Lincoln Diner on Carlisle Street. Please retain your ticket-purchase receipt.

Cost for the walk is $10/ per person.  Tickets are available online at www.GettysburgMuseum.com, or by calling 717-334-6245.

Tom McMillan is the author of the book, Gettysburg Rebels, which tells the story of five young men who grew up in Gettysburg, but fought for the south in the Civil War.  Copies of Tom's book are available for sale at the Gettysburg Heritage Center and online by visiting www.GettysburgMuseum.com
